USVEX — Ultrasonic Vocalization Event Extractor

Animals such as rodents and dolphins use ultrasonic vocalizations for communication and social interaction. These recordings can provide valuable information about behavioral state, development stage, and the temporal distribution of vocalization events.

USVEX is a software tool for analyzing recordings and extracting ultrasonic vocalization events. It implements a proprietary adaptive algorithm that detects and extracts ultrasonic events under changing noise conditions. The tool calculates and reports statistics collected from pre-recorded audio, including event counts, event rates over predefined time intervals, event types, and related auxiliary data. It also supports subjective assessment by generating human-audible audio derived from the recorded ultrasonic sounds through frequency shifting and compression.
